Been trying to catch up on reading for weeks. Haven’t read too much though in that process.
Positive: I’ve read more than some people.
Negative: I haven’t reached my goals for the month.
Positive: I’m still a few books ahead of schedule for the year on my reading goal.
I guess things are fine, then!
I did want to let everyone know that I’ve started a new book with my good friend! We’ll be reading this over the next several weeks and talking about it. Maybe you’ve heard of it!
The funniest thing happened the day we were to meet and kind of toss around ideas for the next book to read together. I had remembered, shortly before I left the house and was getting ready, what we were to be talking about that day – picking the new book! I went to my bookshelf of things unread and specifically my Christian life type books. I immediately went to A. W. Tozer. I’ve wanted to read his books for years – why have I not? I have no idea. One of the books I got this past year, again – unread, was the Attributes of God. I actually have volumes one and two, so it’s two books… not just one. I looked through it and thought it would be good to bring up. I finished getting ready and in the midst of that I thought I should put the actual book in my bag so she could look at it when I got to her house. I never did and I didn’t realize it until I was in the car. Just remember the book and talk about it, it’s fine, no time to go back now.
Fast forward to me walking into her dining room where we meet, I saw the book laying there in a stack of books she had brought out as options from her collection. No way!!!
So we took that as a sign, being as we both had the book and also selected it as a contender.
We’ve already begun reading and will be meeting tomorrow to discuss and talk about the great things A. W. Tozer has to say about God.
There’s been quite a few things that have stuck out to me in the book so far and I don’t want to get into them in this post. But perhaps, on this Monday, I’ll leave you with this…
This little cheap god we’ve made up is one you can park around with – “the Man upstairs,” the fellow who helps you win baseball games. That god isn’t the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He isn’t the God who laid the foundations of the Heaven and the earth; he’s some other god.
A. W. Tozer
What kind of God are you serving? Are you serving Him at all?
I hope you have a great week! Thank you for reading.
I try not to set reading goals because they stress me out! LOL. This book has been on my TBR list as well. I am interested to hear your insights!
