The question

Do you think Jesus knew He was the Son of God when He was a young boy? Why or why not? Referenced in Matthew 2:13-15.

The answer

Short answer? Yes.

As a young boy, I would assume, due to His earthly parents’ obedience and belief in God, that if He didn’t just know in His heart that He was the Son of God that by reading scriptures and hearing His parents, He would have figured that out. His cousin John was also John the Baptist who prepared the way for Jesus, too (Matthew 3). I do think since He is the Son of God, He is God in the flesh so I think He did know as a young boy.

As a boy, we see that He was at the Temple sitting among religious leaders and amazing those around Him with his knowledge and understanding of the scriptures. He was 12 at the time. (Luke 2)
