The question
What’s the importance of believing that Jesus came to earth “in a real body”? Referenced in 2 John 1:7.
The answer
I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ came in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist.
2 John 1:7
It’s important to believe that Jesus Christ came into the world in a real body because that’s part of the whole purpose of His being!
God’s purpose in sending Jesus was that Jesus would be fully God and fully human. He would be God in the flesh.
If anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
Mark 8:38
Being human allowed Jesus to feel pain and ultimately relate to His followers and us to this day. The pain he suffered 2000+ years ago is relevant and important for every Christian today. It’s a testament to what we must go through as Christians. Our faith isn’t just a “sometimes I’ll allow myself to suffer for the sake of the Gospel.” It’s an enduring faith. We are strengthened by what we go through. We don’t pick and choose really what happens to us, what God has allowed to happen. We can choose how we respond to such things – whether we run from those situations or go in with the mind that this is what we were called to and we need to go through it, not around it. That’s what Christ did and we can do it boldly because of Him and His sacrifice.
Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.”
Mark 8:34-35
When I think about Jesus, I’ve never thought He was anything but human. The thought just never crossed my mind. That’s probably due to me just growing up in church. I’m sure someone who is an unbeliever or perhaps had been most of their life has struggled with that belief. How can a man be fully God and fully human? To our human brains and science, I’m sure that’s far fetched. Faith is believing in the impossible when the impossible is possible to God, the Creator of all life.
Jesus looked at [His disciples] intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.
Matthew 19:26
