The question
If Jesus was walking the Earth today and a little child asked Him about Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, what do you think He would say?
The answer
I’d like to first start with my personal experience with Santa and the Easter bunny.
My family does the whole Santa and Easter Bunny stuff. We explain the real reason for the season ~ it’s just an add on.
I didn’t know that Santa wasn’t real though until about 5th or 6th grade. My grandma made that clear when I found an air hockey table behind her door and it ended up “from Santa” at Christmas. *shooketh* From there, I figured everything else like the Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy was a fraud. *shrug*
In the grand scheme of things, I feel like these fairy tales steal glory from God, now that I’m older. We of course teach kids the real reason, just like how I grew up, but kid’s excitement stand on a “Hope” of sorts of getting something from the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. From experience, I felt like Oh, yeah, that’s cool, when I heard about the truth behind each holiday.
Now that I’m older and I look back on my childhood, I see how foolish it is to know something but not fully grasp the gravity of it all. Our hope we find in Jesus is so much greater than the hope of a once a year gift from a bunny or man in a red suit.
I guess I’ll answer the actual question now though… haha ~ what would Jesus say?
I think Jesus would tell a story to the children, kind of like a parable, and ask them if they’d rather have a savior every day on their walk or one of these other once a year make believe characters.
So, what do YOU think Jesus would say? How do you feel about the Easter bunny and Santa Claus?
