On socials, I saw a post that said, “God sacrificed his own son, I promise you he’s okay with abortion.” (I know, the socials strike again with their lunacy)
That’s hard to read. One, because abortion is not okay and actually not supported by Scripture, but more importantly, two, God sacrificing His Son had different context than someone who is aborting a baby made in His image because they don’t want to endure something difficult.
Jesus died on a cross for our sins so that we wouldn’t have to live chained by sin, offering us hope in a hopeless situation that is our depravity. He went willingly to the cross like a sheep to the slaughter.
Someone who chooses abortion is choosing selfish ambition over another human life.
We also can’t mistake God’s sovereignty and deity as a road to excuse our own free will choices. What He chooses to do for our good has different weight than what we choose to do with our limited knowledge (ignorance). He gifted free will, but He doesn’t excuse it. There are consequences to what we choose to do with it.
Our society today doesn’t have a firm grasp on sacrifice. People are slow to sacrifice and quick to throw shade on anything or anyone who does selflessly.
Let’s not let the world tell us what the Bible has already secured. What we give up in this world may just be our biggest sacrifice, but it’s worth it for His name’s sake.
Well said, Summer. I pray for those misguided people who underestimate the sovereignty of God. In my prayer, I ask God to make them sensitive to scripture, have the Light of the World shine on what God says is right. My prayer includes turning hearts of stone into flesh and then accepting Christ’s invitation, repenting, and becoming life protectors of the unborn. For those who don’t, I ask that they realize Hebrews 10:31, for a time will come when all believe, but not all will be saved.
