One Sunday I was working in nursery like I am half the Sundays, and this little boy, not even a year old, was crawling around. He couldnโt walk yet and barely used his legs to crawl. He was doing a lot of heavy pulling with his arms.
At one point, he was playing with a toy while on his stomach and then heโd decide to move. He started moving his arms to get around but he was still holding onto this toy. It was bigger than his head so it wasnโt like it was one of those little rattlers or a floppy book that could go almost flat. He just kept on holding onto it even though it was holding him back.
Soon he got a little frustrated. Like, why canโt I go? Well, bud, youโre blocking yourself from going much further.
Sitting there just watching him, I thought about how we can do that as adults, even seasoned Christians.
We hold onto things or people that hold us back from whatever – whether thatโs what Godโs specifically called us to or own dreams.
Whatever weโre holding onto isnโt of any more value than Jesus. I often find myself clinging to or trying to hold onto something that isnโt a sure thing. Clinging to anything but Jesus stirs up anxiety.
We can let go knowing that Jesus holds it all. If itโs meant to be or meant to be ours for the taking, we wonโt have to cling so tightly. We only have to keep our focus and our feet on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.
โLet us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.โ

Have a great Wednesday!

Oh my goodness. This is so true. It can be so easy to get in our own way when we are holding onto the wrong things. Letโs remember to hold onto Jesus instead. Excellent post, Summer!

Point well-made, Summer! You reminded me itโs like a trapeze artist swinging from one bar to the nextโwe let go of one to grab the next. Scary? Sure, but in Christ, He gives us strength, and our trust is in Him, not self.

Thatโs a great visual to think about! Thank you, Grant! He gives us strength to make the leap.
