The question
Jesus said we would do greater things than He had done after He went to be with His Father – what are examples of people doing greater things than Jesus did? Explain.
The answer
This was referenced in John 14:12:
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do: and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.”
Jesus was going to the Father and leaving this earth until the times He returns. This isn’t to say He wouldn’t continue to be active in our lives, but He did leave us the Holy Spirit to work through us.
I picture Him saying this all, knowing that if each person continues telling other people and they tell more people of Jesus and His works, the believers on earth grows exponentially.
I think about how the Gospel came to each of us today. It was only be the work of others than it made it across the sea to where we are. Because someone believed and took that with them.
In scenarios like this, I stop and think how I’m speaking and living. Have I brought someone else to see Christ in me? Did someone believe because I showed them Jesus in this way?
With this blog, too. I hope that it’s a light for someone and they dig deeper in their faith.

A couple of Sundays ago we had a guest pastor at church and he talked about how our lives are a witness, whether we realize it or not. I feel it correlates with what you said. And it’s a good reminder to spread the love of Jesus.

During Christ’s ministry on earth, before His death and resurrection, He touched the lives of thousands. Today, believers can touch the lives of millions through their individual and collective efforts to share the Gospel. Just imagine the greater things believers could do. Humbling to think about what we could do, but are not doing. Start with prayer.

When we see something on the news and wonder what we can do, my wife and I are quick to agree 100% of the time on one thing—pray.
