Slap It On The Calendar

Alternate title: Get Digital.

I’m writing! It’s been a while and I’ve been itching to write, but I keep putting it off because of anxious thoughts, a new (stupid) game I downloaded on my phone and reading, of course. We got a lot of snow in my neck of the woods and I’m on “vacation” so I’m just at home doing all these things – what better time than to actually get some writing done!?

A day or two ago I was in the kitchen getting my Arbonne energy fizz drink ready for the morning per my routine and I glanced at the calendar hanging on the wall. I thought, why do we even have a calendar here? My second thought was that I have a calendar in my room, too, hanging on my wall that I never use. I just don’t use physical calendars anymore.

As a kid, I always had my own calendar in my room. My mom is big into calendars and putting appointments and birthdays on them, sending cards and/or texting on the birthdays. I had aspirations for the same and had done this up through college.

Through school, up through high school, we had planners – where they were checked and marked for completing and keeping track of things. In college, I kept my own planner to keep me on track with schoolwork, exams and my work schedule.

After college, I was pretty lost without having to keep up with schoolwork anymore, honestly. I ditched my planner lifestyle. Over time, I still needed to keep up with things and I discovered this really cool application on my iPhone called …. calendar.

Can you believe it? They have an app for that.

Now I live in the digital age! I live by my cell’s calendar that’s sync’d up to my emails and phone information. Make an appt? I add it. Need to carve out time for a call or gathering? I add it. If I don’t add it, I almost always forget.

Not great at looking too far in advance, sometimes I check out what’s happening in the next week, but any further than that? Don’t count on it.

This year I finally figured out how to sync the Tulsa Oilers hockey schedule from online to my calendar so I don’t have to do it manually. I felt like this was a big breakthrough, LOL. Then a few weeks later I realized that once the event has passed, that calendar event just disappears. So if for some reason I wanted to go BACK to that event, it’s gone. Kind of jacked, but I get that that takes up more space than needed. I’m just a sentimental gal.

Do you still use a traditional calendar or have you gone digital?
