Writing, Wooing, and Winning

Alliteration isnโ€™t frowned upon here is it? Nahhhh. Let me tell you what these three words mean to me lately!

When I started the thought to write this post, I didnโ€™t think it would start with alliteration or these specific words. I know what I want to say though, so Iโ€™m going to say it.

Next month, Iโ€™m going to take part in NaNoWriMo for the first time. I think I had thought about it once in college when I was pretty active for a short time on Wattpad, but obviously that fizzled out. I never dedicated enough time to it and I wasnโ€™t consistent.

Iโ€™ve somewhat mapped out in my head some stories I really want to work on, ones I really want to put into the world. As an avid reader and someone who types novels in my head and via text, probably to the annoyance of some people, I think I can do this. I can write something that I myself would want to read.

Writing has always been something I donโ€™t like people to see or critique. Blogging was a step toward a writing outlet and thatโ€™s helped me a lot over the years (itโ€™s been a while now, I canโ€™t believe it!!). I think itโ€™s time that I take writing more seriously and really try to get something closer to a finished draft or manuscript. Just something.

So thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m doing and if you see me reading more books about writing, thatโ€™s why.

Next monthโ€ฆ I want to say that Iโ€™m going to take a break from reading to focus instead on writing, but we all know that didnโ€™t work the last time I said I was going to slow down. Definitely wonโ€™t be happening if I say Iโ€™m going to stop.

At the end of the day, weโ€™ll just see what happens.

Iโ€™m fully aware in just a couple of days youโ€™re going to find out about this book I read that has me all kinds of in my feels, book hangover and all. Let me tell you real quick that Wooing Cadie McCaffrey by Bethany Turner was it for me.

Probably one of my favorite books. It dealt with a lot, yet was hilarious. It was the perfect combination of everything you want in a romantic comedy but also with the faith element – teaching about forgiveness, repentance, purpose and the importance of Godโ€™s place in our relationship (being the center of it, to be exact).

Itโ€™s books like this that bring me back to my first point and want to write something so good, so pure and amazing. Itโ€™s reading these books that inspire me, while also intimidating me – could I ever be so great?

What I remind myself is that itโ€™s not about me. If God wants this to be my path, or a path, then He will use me and mold that story how He sees fit and itโ€™ll be for His glory, not mine.

Although emotions are fleeting, currently I feel like Iโ€™m winning. I have a great career. Iโ€™ve had a lot of energy lately, as in the past few days mostly. I started rowing – like, yeah, I bought a rowing machine so I just sit and watch hockey while I row int the living room. Itโ€™s pretty sweet. I organized my bookcases a little and put books underneath my bed to make room for books on my shelves. Itโ€™s a crazy world, a crazy life. But itโ€™s good and even if itโ€™s not perfect, Iโ€™m still winning.

Things donโ€™t go right and sometimes theyโ€™re just plain messed up, but theyโ€™re moving along and things wonโ€™t always be the way they are.

I donโ€™t look forward to these last months of the year, any year, but more so this year I just feel like itโ€™s a drag. Iโ€™m at least looking forward to November and writing and some time away from โ€œthe officeโ€ as well.

I hope to tell you all about it soon!!

Thank you for reading. โ˜บ๏ธ

Iโ€™m a huge fan of Bethany Turner and how she writes – she handles situations that I donโ€™t think I could, honestly. Her and Emily Conrad are gifted that way, IMO. โ˜บ๏ธ
