Know God To Know Ourselves

August 22nd, 2019 I heard this song and wrote it down. This post is years in the making and here we go with publishing my old works.

You Know Me Better by Stars Go Dim

This song reminded me that in order to really know ourselves, know our identity, we must first know and understand who God is. If we get God wrong, we’ll never feel like we know who we are or anything else that relates to that.

Can’t wrap my mind around the way
You see me like gold
You stand in my mess, You call out the best in me
When my mind gets crowded with the lies I’m told
You tell me the truth, You show me that You believe in me
You believe in meYou know me as honest
You know me as good
You know me the way that I wish I could
You know me worthy
You know me love
You know me betterWhen I don’t know where to find me
Show me where to start
Show me who You are
So I know who I am

‘Cause You know who I amYou know me as honest,
You know me as good
You know me the way that I wish I could
You know me worthy
You know me love
You know me betterYou know me completely
You know me through
You know me as someone who looks like You
You know me perfect,
You know me strong
You know me betterI am who You say I am
I am who You say I am
Your word will never change
I am who You say I am
I am who You say I am
I am who You say I am
Your word will never change
I am who You say I am

As someone who struggles with self-confidence and worth, I often need the reminder that God says who I am. I can have confidence in Him and my worth is wrapped up in Him, not anything I do – but what God does through me.

At the very least, I hope you enjoyed this song and its message. 🙂

Sunday we had a sermon in Ephesians that struck me in a different way than it normally does – perhaps I’ll expound on that in a later post. Here’s a scripture from Ephesians that ties in though.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes.

Ephesians 1:3-4
