Book Review Rating System

I’ve overthought this for far too long. It’s time to nail down these reviews and stop making them complicated.

I’ve decided on the below and I will begin posting short reviews on GoodReads rather than just a rating (or no rating at all).

We all know most of my ratings will be ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. If it’s anything I would rate below 4… I most likely won’t rate it on GoodReads at all. I guess I can leave those for my blog. Most of that would probably be my opinion and feels getting in the way anyway.. or it’s just horribly written (which hasn’t really happened in my experience).

Summer’s Ratings

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = loved! Will recommend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = a great read! Would recommend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ = enjoyed it, but not a favorite

⭐️⭐️ = struggled to get through, was an okay read

⭐️ = not a fan, wouldn’t recommend at all, possibly DNF

  1. I don’t really have a system. I give most books 5 stars. If I got bored with the book, then 4 stars. There was a recent read for which I didn’t put any rating. I just feel bad putting anything negative in case the author reads the review. But I really like the way you outlined this. That is helpful for you and others when you post your rating.

It’s so hard to leave a bad review! I know reviews are appreciated and not leaving one doesn’t do much for the author or others, but that’s just me and how I rate. If it’s not 4 or 5 stars, does the author want a bad review online just because it was my opinion that I just didn’t like? 🤔🫣 Not sure. I probably wouldn’t. So I keep my opinions on my blog lol
Thanks for sharing!! We’re a lot alike in our ratings I think. 🙂
