Separation

With all the trees uprooted and limbs strewn about the city over the past week or two, it’s given me quite a bit to ponder.

Do you ever notice how the trees are in beautiful shades of green? In the fall they’re all different colors. The healthy trees are standing tall and are full, in bloom.

When destruction comes whipping through or lightning strikes, limbs fall to the ground or the whole tree is uprooted.

Soon, those broken up trees lying on the ground start to die. The green of the leaves quickly turn brown and hardened, brittle to the touch. After even a short separation from the rest of the tree, they start to undergo a negative change.

We’re quite the same.

The fifteenth chapter of the Gospel of John is filled with fruitful imagery of just this.

““Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

John 15:5

When we stray away from Jesus and Biblical truth for our lives, we, too, undergo negative changes. God breathes life into us daily when we spend time with Him in His word and basking in His presence.

Today’s your reminder to get back to God if you’ve been straying off course. His purpose for you is GREAT.

“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.”

John 15:4
