A Bibliophile’s Path Forward in June

June was filled with adventure outside the bounds of a book’s front and back cover. I was immersed in Arizona loveliness where I did some light CS Lewis reading, went through a very severe thunderstorm with effects lasting a week and a family reunion. Not to mention work life happenings in between.

All to say, though, that I didn’t get as much read as I normally do, but all the other crazy reading months made up for the reading break.

Realistically, I actually just started way too many books, even by my own standards, so a lot will just be finished back to back later on. Look forward to those dates! If you follow me on GoodReads you probably just shook your head at another notification of me starting yet another book when I just started one the day before. I couldn’t help it!

Famous for a Living by Melissa Ferguson

6/1/2023-6/4/2023

This was better than I thought it would be! It was HILARIOUS. I loved it so much.

Melissa Ferguson has a way of developing characters in a serious way, they learn something along the way and in all that, there’s rich humor expertly sprinkled in.

If you want a rom com, look no further!

Prince Caspian by CS Lewis

6/3/2023-6/15/2023

One of my favorites from this series! Just a classic by CS Lewis. I don’t think I had ever read this one before even though I had it since I was elementary age.

I’m excited for the rest of the series and the guide book I’ve been reading as well.

I Think He Knows by Katie Bailey

6/24/2023-6/25/2023

I seen the review for this on Instagram and had to read. It was really good, just not a Christian read. I still thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the plot. The best friends to more trope always gets me in the feels. The fake relationship that turns to real, banter, and swoony moments just added to this. I’ll have to read Katie Bailey’s other books!

Also, to note, I read the ebook version. I know, GASP. Shoutout to my accumulated Kindle Rewards account for being the real MVP here.

This is book two. I’m reading these out of order ANOTHER GASP.

Once upon a Wardrobe by Patti Callahan

5/12/2023-6/28/2023

I got this book solely because of the title and it’s relation to CS Lewis because if you’ve followed me for anytime over the last few months, you know I’ve become a little obsessed with the guy’s work.

YOU GUYS. This book was so good. First book I’ve read by Patti Callahan even though I’ve had Becoming Mrs. Lewis on my shelves for a hot minute. I grabbed this up a month and a half ago and immediately started it. Most of my reading happened in a few days because I had been distracted by other books. This would have been a quick read had I not gotten all distracted.

I loved the storyline Callahan gave about Megs and her little brother. The ending was even more beautiful because it gave the readers a look into the future and just made everything feel so magical and limitless.

I’m excited to get back to Becoming Mrs. Lewis soon!!

Dancing to Freedom by Traci Hunter Abramson

6/29/2023-6/30/2023

A quick read to kick off a new series that will probably take me the rest of the year to finish.

This was the first book I’ve read by Traci Hunter Abramson, a novella actually. It was good so I feel confident the other books in the series will be about the same. This one was a short story of a hockey player who has a chance encounter with a ballerina who was more like a slave to the Soviet Union and her escape to freedom to marry the hockey player. I was routing for them the whole way. 🥹

  1. You still finished more books than I did! Some of these authors I heard of, some I haven’t. All of the books sound so good! I will be stalking some of them on Amazon now 😂
    In June I read:
    – Wait for Me by Jody Hedlund. This is the 4th book in the Waters of Time series. I’m so sad to reach the end of the series. I loved it. I might be reading through it again, which is not something I normally do, especially with fiction.
    – The Good Shepherd. This was a devotional by Pastor Robert Morris and others who attend Gateway Church. Each devotion pertained to Psalm 23.
    – The Kissing Tree. You know all about this one! Thanks for the recommendation!
    – The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer. One of the best books on slowing down and living an intentional life. In fact I have gone through it twice. The first time was the audiobook. That was in 2020. This time I read it and I loved it even more.
