Bible Carrying, Flipping, Attached and Relying Believers

On my favorite social media site, Instagram, I seen a reel that talked about carrying around a Bible like we do our phones. Wouldn’t that be something?

My Bible isn’t small, but a few years ago I would carry a pretty large purse and I’d carry a physical book with me every where I went so carrying a Bible wouldn’t be too hard to imagine. I don’t carry a large purse anymore, mostly because it’s just bulky and I don’t go to the office daily like I used to where I felt like I needed to pack a multitude of things for my day. Right now, I could have a Bible at least in my car – so that has me thinking.

In the reel, it said what if we picked up that Bible and flipped through the pages instead of scrolling on our phones? When we’re in those waiting times or just kind of wanting something to do, we gravitate toward our devices. Imagine being in a line somewhere and instead of pulling out your phone, you pulled out a book – but not just a book, the Bible. That could open a dialogue with those around you when they see you reading that every spare chance. They may ask questions or talk about their own beliefs.

Are we afraid of that? Sometimes I think that’d be easy, but other times it’s like I get in my head and think about it being hard to talk and what if I don’t know the answer?

Fear not, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

Those questions and those fears aren’t what we’re concerned with when it comes to the kingdom because those fears are originating from man and not grounded in God’s commands and promises. We don’t have to know all the answers. We know the One who does.

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

2 Timothy 1:7

The soundtrack for the reel went through these comparisons between a phone and a Bible, like what would you do if you left your house and you forgot your Bible? We all know when it’s a phone, we 99% would go back and get that phone. Would we if it’s the Bible though?

He also went on to say that with the Bible, we don’t get disconnected the same way we can get disconnected with technology. No service? Bill not paid? You’re out of luck. Opening up the Bible? Always available. That bill has already been paid!

We can be Bible carrying believers.

We can be Bible flipping believers.

We can be Bible attached believers.

We can be Bible relying believers.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7

  1. Such a great thought! I used to read my Bible on my phone, but my eyes have gotten worse, so I don’t do that anymore. But anyway, I remember one time I was out and looking at my phone. Some older guy walked by and made a snippy comment about me texting. I told him I was reading my Bible and he didn’t know what to say about that so he just walked away. Lol. But yes If we carried a real Bible with us, it sure could open the door for a lot conversations. And I especially like your point about how much we “have” to have our phones with us. Yet do we feel the same about our Bible? Great reflection, Summer!
