Nice, Fierce, or Mysterious

Jesus Centered Bible – questions and answers category goes through the questions given throughout the New Testament of the Bible I use and I give my answers and thoughts. Always, feel free to comment your thoughts and your own answers to these questions!

The question

Which word comes closest to describing the way you see Jesus – Nice, fierce, or mysterious? Explain. Referenced in Revelation 5:5.

The answer

Although Jesus is nice, I would say fierce and mysterious are most closely how I see Jesus. He’s so much more than nice. In some ways, yes, He is also mysterious. It’s like God, because Jesus is God… He works in mysterious ways. His goodness can be mysterious – we can’t fully understand just how GOOD He is truly.

Fierce, because He has conquered the world. He has gone through temptation and pain as we have – more than we have even. I don’t think you can do that without some form of ferocity.

Mysterious, because we can spend our whole lives walking with Jesus, straying now and again I suppose, and we continue to learn and grow in His ways. It’s amazing how much we have yet to learn about the Son of God and the magnitude of an incredible gift He provided to us on the cross.

When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ…

Ephesians 3:4 ESV

1 Corinthians 2 also talks of hidden wisdom that can only be found through the Spirit, revealed by God to those who seek it; a mystery in itself.

  1. So much depends on the situation. “Nice” is much too weak a word to describe His amazing love.
“Fierce” is strangely comforting when I think about how He defends me from my enemies, human and otherwise.
“Mysterious” – somewhat. He wants us to know Him, and He shows more of Himself to me day by day, but I will never (in this life) have a full understanding of Him. And that’s OK. If I understood completely, that would make me God, and I’m not. 😊
