What Would You Do?

So, a couple was accidentally given $120,000 by a bank. Afterwards, the couple went on a spending spree.

Local news station story on social media.

Some views I saw were basically… “Yeah, buddy, I was GIVEN money so I’m gonna get what I need, what I couldn’t buy before and be SET. Yeah!”

I see this often. We think that someone else’s mistake can be our gain. Perhaps in SOME cases, that is true. In this case? Nah. If you know that money isn’t yours and you cannot prove that it was yours, why would you and how could you, in good conscious, spend it?

Perhaps this situation has more to do with money and greed.

Or, what if this couple was going through something? A hardship where they needed money and maybe this was their gift from God?

Nahhhhhhh. No excuse in my book 🙂

We need to be a people of honesty, integrity, and humility.

Seriously though… $120,000?? UGH.

And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Acts 20:35

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:10

  1. You’re right; the honest thing to do is give the money back as soon as you discover the mistake. I was raised to be truthful. There is so much peace in just doing the right thing. You don’t have to worry about getting caught.

  2. Reminds me of the pastor who had gotten all the way to the back of the bus before discovering he had been given too much change. He made his way back to the front and gave it to the driver. “You gave me too much,” he said. The driver responded, “I know. I heard you preach last night. It was a test.” I guess he passed. 🙂
