The Good News

The Gospel is the Good News. But simply reading the Gospel – maybe by way of Matthew, Mark, Luke and/or John – doesn’t necessitate “Good News” unless you understand what you’re reading. To many, this is a historical account and maybe a literary piece about Jesus’ life. The Gospel may also be defined by the whole Bible – from Genesis to Revelation – as this centers around Jesus as a whole (God’s plan from the beginning of time to what’s to come, Jesus’ return).

The true Good News within the very real story of Jesus is that while we were still sinners, He was born of a virgin (Mary), lived a perfect life, and then He died for us. He was put to death on a cross, bled and died for our sins. Lying in a tomb, he rose again on the third day to fulfill the Word and to complete His work on earth for 40 more days. He then ascended into Heaven in His full body and spirit form. He didn’t leave us completely, but gifted us the Holy Spirit.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

John 3:16-17

He perfectly fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament, securing the New Covenant for all that believe it.

If you’re not a believer, you’re bound to the Old Covenant which is a covenant of works that’s unattainable as a human. Only Jesus could fulfill this perfectly. Because God is a Holy God, he demands perfection. We cannot on our own achieve this.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans 3:23

Through Christ’s sacrifice, God sees Christ’s work instead of ours at judgement. (Though we are saved, this doesn’t mean we get a free pass to sin.)

At the End, when Judgement day comes, humans have two options. Heaven or Hell. There is no third middle ground and there’s no getting into Heaven except through Jesus Christ.

You are not alone! The Christian faith is an individual decision but lived out in community. It’s important to get connected!

Acts of the Apostles talks of this. When the church was forming, they provided a guide for the fellowship of believers.

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
