Sunday after church, I came home and sat on the couch. Wasn’t super hungry, so I was about to get some reading in, catch up on some notifications. My grandma had the TV on and it was background noise to me until I heard a Hobby Lobby commercial.
I immediately thought it had been a few weeks since I’d been there. Which, before that, it had been months probably.
My second thought was that this is Sunday. They’re not even open on Sundays. As a Christian based business, they and Mardel (a related bookstore company I love) or Chick-fil-A as another example, are closed on Sundays to allow their employees time for faith expressions like church and family time.
It’s interesting that they had a commercial on a Sunday, a day they’re not even open for business.
People like myself with regular Monday through Friday jobs have Saturday and Sundays off most generally. The occasional weekend may have work to do, depending on how the days fall in the accounting world.
It got me thinking that even if we’re not “working,” we’re sending a message.
For Christians, are we only Christians on a Sunday morning at our pews worshipping, praying and listening to a sermon? Or are we Christians in all things?
We’re called to proclaim the Good News and we’re called to not just be a Christian one day a week.
What if after your Monday through Friday job, the weekend came and you broke company policy somehow? I don’t know how, but what if you did? Wouldn’t that impact your work during the next Monday through Friday? We can only guess it would. Someone’s going to find out.
In our Christian lives, if we’re leaving the church and sending a contrary message to the world in our Monday through Saturday lives, what we could proclaim on a Sunday morning loses its value from our lips.
Since this is a Wednesday, what’s your message today in light of what you may have experienced Sunday morning with your church family?
Encouragement:
- If you haven’t been faithful in your walk outside of your church building, today and tomorrow give you a fresh opportunity to proclaim His goodness and turn things around.
- God can work through you today! What contrary messages and attitudes do you need to give over to Him today?
- Tell someone else something positive. It might just change the course of their day (and yours)!
I hope you have a great Wednesday!
