Flying Southwest

I’m not flying in the direction of southwest, nor am I flying at all today. On an airplane anyway. I don’t yet know how else I could be flying today, but I probably won’t be flying that way either. If I were flying and choosing an airline, I’d probably pick Southwest just because out of the four total flights I’ve ever been on in my life, that’s all I know. LOL

Did you hear about Southwest Airlines soon to be charging for checked luggage? This may surprise, but I’ve never personally experienced “checking” a bag. I’ve only ever had a carryon. With this new change, it kind of makes me want to get on a flight and check a bag before I have to pay later in the year for the same experience! Just kidding 🙂

Oddly enough, I was at Bible Study Fellowship and as you may recall, we’re studying Revelation. Our lecture leader told us our first key truth from chapter 18: “The worldly trust in wealth and self which will fail, but the Godly trust in Christ and stand secure.” She followed that up with, “check your significance.” As in check what you hold as significant in your life. What are you treasuring?

Because this headline about Southwest was fresh in my mind, I immediately jotted down right after that note, “like a Southwest Airlines bag – it ain’t free.”

Whatever we treasure is costly.

If we’re holding onto the world’s treasure, we’re not only going to lose that, but also our lives – we’re throwing away eternal life with our Creator. The biggest cost we could face.

Alternatively, if we’re forfeiting our lives and living for Christ, we gain! We may lose what the world views as success or popularity for the sake of something much, much greater. Our faith is staked on His eternal truth and saving power.

Have you counted the cost? How are you flying? Which airline are you choosing in life – the world, or Christ?
