We can easily think of someone whom we know really well. We know their flaws, their mistakes and all their less attractive qualities. Even knowing those things, you still love that person? Despite what they’ve done or who they are at present, you still love them, don’t you?
I’d imagine you would. It’s most likely a best friend or a family member.
This is an even greater feat when we think of how even more God loves us, who has higher standards of perfection than we do. He doesn’t tolerate sin. He can’t even be close to it, He’s so far removed from it.
With that being said, we would never make it to Heaven on our own. We can’t measure up. Our standard is Jesus. No one can work their way into Heaven and its not by chance you end up there. It’s nothing but our faith in Jesus as the Son of God with died for our sins.
When God sees us in Heaven, He sees Jesus’ righteousness wrapped around us.
Sometimes we see our family or our friends and we see their flaws because they may have offended or hurt us recently. Other times we see their redeeming qualities, how kind and thoughtful they are. We see past the flaws on a regular basis. I know my people look past mine.
God doesn’t look past them. He doesn’t give excuses. He doesn’t tolerate sin and our little flaws are usually rooted in sin, aren’t they? He just sees Jesus. We’ve staked our life on Him, forfeited our little piece of earthly, fleshly desires for our meaningful purpose and life with Jesus because His way is better than anything we could fathom.
Our life without Him is temporary and filled with torment, with a giant void.
Our life with Him is full, eternal and blessed. Our life with Him is our one great love.
As someone who loves romance stories since forever, it wasn’t until probably college or so until I heard how this story of Jesus is the greatest love story of all. I never thought of it that way because I didn’t see it and I didn’t read it as much as I do now to see it.
How blessed we are to have and experience this love daily!

God’s love for us, Jesus’s love for us, is truly the greatest love story of all time.
