One day, as I was going to the kitchen to toss my crushed water bottle into the recycle bag and grab more water, I quite literally seen a squirrel. It was outside when I glanced out and yeah, I watched it for a bit. Lo and behold, another squirrel showed up. I got comfortable, resting my arms on the counter and sink to lean over and just watch them out the window. They were walking around and then one got something in its mouth and a little chase ensued between them on the grass, in the shade of the trees. They soon went their separate ways and then, so did I.

This brought the question to my mind. Why are we fascinated by squirrels? Why do we use them as this thing to say when we get distracted?

Let’s talk about it.

I think it’s because squirrels are so fast. I mean, usually when I see a squirrel, they don’t stay stationary much.

Aren’t squirrels technically like a rodent? If so, I think it’s a shame. I find them really cute, to be honest. I mean, they’re just so adorable with their little furry tails!

Some are wild, like… My grandma is convinced the same squirrel frequents our front porch. Totally possible! He may live around here. But a few years ago, a squirrel kept coming up to the porch and chewing the carpet/rug that was on the cement porch. Like just tore whole pieces off. This shook my grandma immensely. She opened the door really quick and shooed him away. Then he would come back and occasionally be so bold as to look into the screen door, as if to say, “Yeah, I’m back!”

So maybe not all squirrels are cute, because some are psycho and that’s very unattractive.

Though not many people, if any, have used this phrase on me, I am actually distracted by squirrels and not like a squirrel. Though if someone was actually inside my head, maybe they would think otherwise.
