No Ad Needed

I was no marketing major, but sometimes ads seem sus to me.

Some things in life just don’t need to be advertised. They don’t need commercials. On the flip side, I’d say that there are some things we don’t actually need commercials for and get them anyway. The first thing that always comes to mind is toilet paper (I don’t know why). We all need it. The only thing they’re advertising is the brand, which I get… but I still think it’s a weird flex.

Think about Rolls-Royce. You never see a commercial for them. Why? Because you know what it is (or at least car people do???) and you know its quality. You don’t have to go far to see a Ford commercial though, which is a common car brand… so why do we need commercials for them? I don’t really know, but apparently they see a need.

You don’t need a commercial to know your worth, like the Rolls-Royces of the world. Do we need to walk around talking about ourselves or come with an ad before we meet someone? “Here’s why we should be friends” or something is kind of odd, although we do become friends around common interests, but we didn’t go out seeking friends that way. (OR DID YOU?)

Commercials can also be annoying. Let me tell you about ads that grind my gears. The ones on ESPN app – I watch a video of a news story and then it goes away, it goes to the next story. I wasn’t done re-watching it (because it’s usually the funny stories I watch). So I go back and find it… and I have to re-watch the ad at the beginning of the story, again.

We don’t know where ads come from or where they go, but we get to experience them anyway. Don’t we?

Today’s encouragement? You don’t need to advertise your worth, your value, or your strengths. (Unless… unless, maybe you’re in an interview. Then, you probably should.)

I believe that the people who are meant to be in your life will see your worth and those who aren’t, won’t. You don’t have to advertise or get their attention. You don’t have to boast about yourself especially when you can boast about God. Make much of Him and the rest will fall into place.

“Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

2 Corinthians 10:17
