It was a Monday night, a week ago, when the Tulsa Oilers had their last game until October.
Just the week prior, they had clinched a playoff spot by winning the very last regular season game. It was a must-win. We are the world’s worst (or best) at barely making it, inching in at the last moment. It was that one win that got us to the playoffs, but it was a little too late to make the ideal spot ~ 3rd in our division.
Short detour back in time…
That weekend, I had traveled to Allen, TX with my friend so we could attend the back to back games Friday and Saturday the Oilers played there. We were hoping for some wins or a full weekend sweep. What did we get? Losses both nights. It was a fun time, but would have been more fun had they been able to pull off some wins.
If you go, and you enjoy (love) Mexican food, I recommend Uncle Julio’s. So good. It was a bit pricier than I expected based on the two dollar signs listed on Google… but maybe those mean something different in Texas than Oklahoma 😂 things tend to be priced higher there than here. Funny, that.

Saturday nights game I got us tickets in a different section than we normally sit in when we go and we were close to our hockey friends who made the drive for that night’s game. That was probably the most fun.

Sunday we woke up early and hit the road so we could make it back in plenty time for the Sunday evening game. It was a great game! I loved that we won, but it was also great that it was the way we ended the season. Plus, they gave out the player awards, which is always one of my favorite moments.
So that being said…
Being tossed into the 4th place spot, we played the number one team of not only our division and conference, but the whole league. Kansas City dominated this season just barely getting into double digits in the L column.
That record carried over, unsurprisingly, into the post season with a full sweep over the Oilers. We had some good plays, some good goals, but in the end, it wasn’t enough. KC is too good. Too good.
I’m still hoping they get beat by someone else. I don’t know who, but I hope they do.
In other ECHL news, there were two teams that were on the brink of collapse to the point of no longer existing. That fate held true for one team, the Newfoundland Growlers. The other team, Trois-Rivières Lions, was able to come to an agreement and will continue on.
Next season the league will welcome two new teams, one in Lake Tahoe and the other in Bloomington, IL. We look forward to playing against these teams and seeing how they develop over the coming years.
So, what is Summer doing now that the Tulsa Oilers are done? Wellp. I’ve been getting my hockey fix by keeping up with the remaining ECHL playoffs, watching the NHL playoff games and making memes. When these playoffs are over, that’ll be a different story. While I don’t love baseball, I did find interest in it and trying to learn more about it. I may hit up some local minor league games over the summer on not hot days. I’ll be missing hockey all the while.
Thanks for stopping by!
