The question
Jesus was called โthe Lamb of God,โ sent by God to be slaughtered as a sacrifice. How do you think Jesus felt when He was called โthe Lamb of Godโ? Referenced in Revelation 7:9-10.
The answer
I’m answering this question today because at Bible Study Fellowship, we’re studying in the Gospel according to John this year. We just passed where John the Baptist proclaimed to his discipled “Behold! The Lamb of God!”
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! He is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’ I did not recognize him as the Messiah, but I have been baptizing with water so that he might be revealed to Israel.”
John 1:29-31
When I went back and pulled this out of drafts, I noticed this was a question referenced out of Revelation which I’m also studying on the side right now. I thought this would be a fitting time as any to throw this one into a post for publish.
After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. And they were shouting with a great roar, “Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!”
Revelation 7:9-10
From what we gather in reading about Jesus, He was obedient and knew where he was headed when He stepped into our human world as a baby. He is all knowing and 100% God while being 100% human.
Before it’s His time, He asks His Father to take this cup from Him. It’s not His Will, but still, we see that struggle in Scripture.
Jesus has only ever shown His lovingkindness. He felt that to His death on the cross. That was His reason to conquer death, out of love.
The Lamb of God was a prophetic fulfillment of Scripture. Only a perfect sacrifice could atone for sin and only Jesus could be the lamb to save the world.
The Lamb of God is alive today. Do you know Him? I encourage you to read the Gospel of John. It might change your world.
Thanks for reading today. Do you have anything to add?
