Strangers

It was late Sunday night, a full day of low key activity and some light work that plunged me into rediscovering Phillip Phillips’ music. *insert Summer binge listening to the new album* Spotify popped up with a suggestion when I was about to put on the same 10 songs as usual, and I was like okay… I’ll give it a quick listen and a whole album later, I have said album in my “liked” playlist.

Saturday, my cousin had come over with my aunt and uncle, and we were talking about my reading her absolute favorite book, Pride & Prejudice. I’ve been trying to read this for years because I know it’s her favorite and I don’t know how I’ve made it 27 years without consuming said work. She mentioned that if she could go back and experience her first time reading it, she would.

With that thought accompanying my current listening, I got stuck on this song. 🙃

Not just meeting someone or going back to reading something for the first time, but if you could back and experience one thing for the very first time what would it be?

Myself? I haven’t quite formed my answer yet. Will follow up. Lol

Lyrics:

Funny, when you first meet everything seemed so wild
Learning all the new things, catching everything that stands out
The difference between my heart and what comes out of my mouth
It’s something I don’t know anything about

Don’t you wish that we could be strangers?
That we could go backwards and meet all over again
Crazy how our time is an arrow, shooting us forward
I’d do it all over and over again just to be strangers
Just to be strangers

Oh, I can still see us, I can still see your face
Oh, I can draw a map from memory back to the day
The only thing I read about, what’s here and what is coming
It’s all you, it’s always you

Don’t you wish that we could be strangers?
That we could go backwards and meet all over again
Crazy how our time is an arrow, shooting us forward
I’d do it all over and over again just to be strangers
Just to be strangers

And when the world ends, I swear we’ll keep letters
So let’s never worry about where the time went

Don’t you wish that we could be strangers?
Don’t you wish that we could be strangers?
Don’t you wish that we could be strangers?
That we could go backwards and meet all over again
Crazy how our time is an arrow, shooting us forward
I’d do it all over and over again just to be strangers
Just to be strangers, just to be strangers

  1. This is so profound. Numerous things come to mind. Like your cousin said, reading certain books for the first time. Or like the song says, meeting certain people for the first time. It might be hard to pinpoint only one though. I will have to think about that too! 🤔
