Aging

What do you think gets better with age?

As I grow older, I read more. Thatโ€™s not very surprising though.

When I was first starting to read, of course I was excited and I read everything just because I could. I remember reading signage and stuff like that wherever my family went. In school, I actually didnโ€™t love to read until about high school. Since then Iโ€™ve been reading a lot more.

Reading is my escape. My escape, or at least what would pass the time, would be video games – particularly like a BeJeweled or Sims type of game. Now I spend every spare moment I have reading and you never find me โ€œboredโ€ unless Iโ€™m unfortunately caught without any reading material.

How does reading get better?

Well, as Iโ€™ve gotten older, Iโ€™ve started to expand my reading options so Iโ€™m digging further into nonfiction and Iโ€™m regularly reading my Bible in a disciplined effort to read the entire Bible in a year. Iโ€™ve never read through the entire Bible and probably books Iโ€™ve never even touched!

Rather than only reading fictional romances, Iโ€™ve been channeling my love of reading to more things like my walk with God and spending diligent time learning and growing with Him. Rather than spending all my time in pretty meaningless stories, God has one in His Word for me to learn from and itโ€™s for me because Heโ€™s a personal God – His Word is just as much for me as it is for anyone else who opens it up.

The older I get, the more Iโ€™ve recognized and felt the joy of reading His word. Itโ€™s not boring like I used to think when I was younger. Itโ€™s exciting and relevant.

Happy Friday!!
