Jesus Centered Bible – questions and answers category goes through the questions given throughout the New Testament of the Bible I use and I give my answers and thoughts. Always, feel free to comment your thoughts and your own answers to these questions!
The question
Remembering that Jesus was fully God and fully human. Do you think He ever got sick? Why or why not? Referenced in James 5:1-15.
The answer
Thatโs a tough one and hereโs why.
Being fully God, would He have been effected by human sickness? Would he have been stricken with the things that plague our society? In Heaven, Godโs perfect earth, there wonโt be sickness so itโs not like thatโs normal, to be sick I mean. When sin entered the equation, so did these illnesses over time. God didnโt design illness as a part of life.
On the other hand, Jesus is fully human as well. Wouldnโt He have still suffered just as we do because He suffered in ways we do as an example? I donโt know if sickness would be the same example though, not compared to the persecution and death He suffered.
If I were to answer this question definitively, I would say Jesus never got sick.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments!

Interesting question. Though we have no record of him being sick, we do know he experienced states of physical weakness such as during his 40 day fast and he experienced pain on the cross, so in that sense he can understand us when we are sick. That is one of the issues I covered in my book Jesus Understands Trauma.

Definitely a difficult question to answer. I would say maybe he did get sick, mainly just because He understands everything we go through. But on the other hand, He was fully God and able to heal anyone and everyone. Sooo, I donโt know! Lol ๐ Interesting to ponder ๐ค
