The subject of submitting has come up a lot lately whether in conversation or in reading so I took that as a divine sign to address in a post with my recent thoughts.
Submitting is defined during my Google search as accept or yield to a superior force or to the authority or will of another person.
Biblically speaking, we are to submit to our God and to our husbands (if we have them).
In life, is that easy? Not always. Sometimes thatโs just hard. We tend to also submit to other things like cultural ideas, philosophies and maybe so far as fears if those are keeping us from what we need to be doing.
Submitting to authority hasnโt been a huge deal for me. Sure sometimes itโs hard when I donโt agree with policies and things, but at the end of the day, what am I gonna do? Iโm kind of a rule follower (I know, huge shocker) and I guess in the spirit of fear (thatโs not from God, mind you)โฆ I obey and submit to that authority, whether thatโs work or government.
If I were to have a husband, if Iโve made the decision to marry someone, itโs because I already know that I will be pledging to submit to him the rest of our days. You get one chance so if youโre unsure about doing so, probably shouldnโt get married if theyโre not the leader they ought to be or youโre not ready to submit to another. Most definitely something to work through and pray about. Thatโs a lifelong commitment after all.
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord.
Colossians 3:18
At the end of the day, weโve submitted to something or someone. Is it for our own good, or for the furthering of His kingdom?
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Proverbs 3:6
For those unsure of submitting to a husband, have we submitted to our God first and foremost? You and your husband (to be) are submitted to Him, preferably, and with that alignment, there shouldnโt be an issue for a wife to submit to her husband.
Being submitted to Christ and having a correct alignment in that regard will go a long way. I love how the relationship between husband and wife mirrors that of Christ and the church. God is amazing in His design, in all things.
For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church.
Ephesians 5:23
So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7

โAt the end of the day, weโve submitted to something or someone. Is it for our own good, or for the furthering of His kingdom?โ I love that, Summer. Such a great point. Perhaps periodically taking inventory of what we are submitting to will do us some good. Submission can be difficult, whether itโs to God, husband, or someone else, because our pride gets in the way. But following Godโs plan is always ideal. I am glad we can trust that when we submit to Him, He will always have our best interest in mind. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Summer.
