My Own Little Lavender Plant

A about a month ago now, I was killing time and also looking specifically for a birthday card last minute. I went to Hallmark (of course) and spent money there that maybe I shouldn’t have BUT I GOT CHRISTMAS GIFTS and stuff.

One of the things included in “and stuff” was something for myself….

A little grow kit for lavender!

Totes adorbs, y’all. They had different flowers to grow, but lavender seemed like something I would grow. I contemplated getting more than one even, like daisies along with the lavender, because they were only $4.99, but did I really need it? No. So I decided to be reasonable and only get the one.

If this works out though, I may go in search of more since this may convince me I’m better at plants than I think I am! Debatable.

So how is this plant??

I planted it on Labor Day weekend – possibly on Labor Day because I put it in my phone calendar then but that was as days went by I think so I could have had a lapse in my mind if when I planted it, though the timeline makes sense and being one day off isn’t going to hurt.

The packaging says that germination takes place between 14 and 28 days and once I see leaves sprouting through the soil, I can remove the plastic wrap I was instructed to place over the pot.

As of right now, there’s nothing. Gma and I have been disappointed, but then we check the calendar and it just seems like a long time – it’s not.

Waiting is the hardest part of growing plants. I WANT MY LAVENDER NOW.

Similarly, waiting in life, in all things, can be hard. Waiting on answers. Waiting on the life I dream about to happen. Waiting on student loans to be paid off. Waiting on that next paycheck. Waiting on sunburns to heal. Waiting on dinner to finish cooking… 🤪 you get my point.

I’m also probably getting hungry again.

Just like plants, God works on us through our waiting. Sometimes it seems like nothing is happening. We can’t see the leaves or the fruits or the flowers yet, but there’s work being done below the visible layer of soil.

Here are some verses I’ve found helpful recently…

with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love

Ephesians 4:2 ESV

Until recently, I considered patient to be, like, not complaining about the waiting. But patience with people is also filled with compassion. Patience encompasses the other fruits of the spirit that we see in Galatians 5:22-23.

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation.

Romans 12:12 ESV

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds

James 1:2 ESV

WHEN. How easy it is to be surprised that we go through trials. We’re told we will face trials, not maybe… but when. Though God is not surprised by the events that occur in our lives or around us, we still get blindsided by these things. How could this happen? How could God let this happen? I don’t know. Sin? Our own sin and the sin that’s in this world. Praise God for a redeemer and Jesus, Who is coming back one day soon. 🙌🏻

I hope He’s working on me. Lord knows I need it. I’m anxious and worried for nothing 🥺 I’m faced with a lot of trials right now and though I know that God is GOOD and He is sovereign over these tribulations, life is just hard sometimes. So is “adulting” 🙂

If you could be in prayer for me, readers, I’ll be in prayer for you! We’re all going through things – whether big or small. We don’t always share all the details or share what’s going on inside of us. I pray that whatever it may be for you, that you would release your grip on these things and surrender them to Him who controls all. He can turn the seeds you can’t see into beautiful flowers when you stay close to Him.

With a potted plant not yet sprouted and peace,

Summer
